Winnie Schoenbauer, age 90, of New Prague, died May 16, 2013, at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine. Winnie was born December 20, 1922 in Shakopee, MN to Andrew & Della (Ince) Spielman. She grew up in the Spring Lake area and attended Spring Lake District School. Winnie grew up on a farm and was known as a great swimmer; it was reported that she would swim across Spring Lake in order to bring the cows back from pasture! Winnie married Andrew J. Schoenbauer on August 3, 1946 at St. Mark’s Church in Shakopee. She had a variety of jobs including waitressing at Wampach’s Restaurant in Shakopee, working at Brown & Bigelow in St. Paul, waitressing at the Holiday Inn in Spring Lake, working in the kitchen at Mala Strana, and serving as bookkeeper in the business she owned with her husband. Winnie enjoyed gardening, old time and big band music, flying light aircraft with her husband, and playing cards (including frequently with the residents at Mala Strana). She was known as a great cook and baker and was famous for her kolacky and sweet rolls.
Winnie is survived by her husband, Andrew, of New Prague; children, Andy of St. Paul, Wayne (& Emma) of Colorado Springs, CO, Debbie (& Mark) Salisbury of Prior Lake, Michael (& Cindy) of Belle Plaine, Paul of Lakeville; 2 sisters-in-law, Fran Spielman of Shakopee & Patricia Spielmlan of Fish Creek, WI; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, June Schoenbauer; brothers, Robert, Donald, & Patrick Spielman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Father Dave Barrett officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 21 from 4 – 8 PM and Wednesday morning from 7:30 – 9:45 AM at the funeral home. Lunch will follow Mass at the Legion Clubroom in New Prague and burial will occur that afternoon at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Winnie’s grandsons, David, Ben, Jake, Jason, John, Tony, & Michael Schoenbauer will serve as pallbearers.
