William R. “Billy” VanCura, Jr., age 57, of New Prague, died at his home on Saturday, November 11, 2017.  Billy was born on September 21, 1960 in New Prague to William R. and Lorraine M. “Pat” (Hughes) VanCura, Sr.  He was a member of the New Prague community his entire life, having attended St. Wenceslaus School and graduating from New Prague High School.  He attended training for his life-long passion of serving as an EMT.  Billy belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was a tireless member of the New Prague Police Reserve and the New Prague Ambulance, for which he was also a certified trainer. His life revolved around these volunteer organizations and his home was referred to as “South Precinct” because it served as a gathering place for his numerous friends in these organizations.  He, along with members of the New Prague Ambulance Service, was instrumental in establishing the EMS annual scholarship.  In addition, he was a key figure in implementing the child safety car-seat program and in working with the certified instructors for that program.  Billy was a visible ambassador to many in this community through his work, first at the Ben Franklin store, and behind the pharmacies of Drug Express and Walgreens.

Billy is survived by 14 first cousins, their children, and many, many friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents and all his aunts and uncles.

A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. Wenceslaus Church with Father George Grafsky officiating.  Visitation will be held Friday from 4—8 PM and Saturday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall.  In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the New Prague Ambulance Association.
