Wilbert Bauer, age 86, of rural New Prague, died Sunday, December 7, 2014 at his home. Wilbert was born November 9, 1928 in Helena Township, Scott County to Benedict J. & Mathilda (Wick) Bauer. He attended school in St. Benedict and in his teens, went to work in St. Paul for the Armour Packing Company until its closing in 1978, at which time he moved back to St. Benedict and farmed. Wilbert belonged to St. Benedict Catholic Aid and loved music and dancing. He was also a fitness enthusiast, walking 6 miles each day and doing 120 push-ups.
Wilbert is survived by 4 sisters, Marita (& Barney) Riesgraf of Chaska, Betty (& Walt) Donnay of Watkins, Helen (& Don) Pauly of Cold Spring, Dolores Walerius of Montgomery; 2 sisters-in-law, Stella Bauer of Marystown, Mary Ann Bauer of Belle Plaine; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Edwin, Cletus, and LeRoy Bauer; brother-in-law, Don Walerius; sister-in-law, Lila Bauer; nephew, Bob Pauly.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill with Father David Barrett officiating. Visitation will take place at church 2 hours prior to Mass from 8:30 – 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in St. Benedict, MN. Lunch will be held at the KC Hall in New Prague.
