Warren Nelson, age 91, of New Prague, died Friday, September 7, 2012 at Mala Strana Health Care Center. Warren was born January 4, 1921 in Albert Lea, MN to Jacob & Gina (Johnson) Nelson. He attended Albert Lea High School and the Dunwoody Institute in 1941- 42. Warren enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in the European theater in France during WWII. After his military service, he worked as an electrician and lived in St. Paul, Burnsville, and finally New Prague. He married Marjorie Peterson in 1942 in Albert Lean, MN, who died July 12, 1975. On April 29, 1977 Warren married Julie Bates and the couple has made their home in New Prague since 1981. Warren loved woodworking, golf, and volunteer work. Over the years, he was involved in the United Way in St. Paul, Highland Business Assn., Highland Park Lutheran Church, Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Prague, the New Prague Golf Club Board of Directors as a past president, past member of New Prague Rotary, New Prague Opportunities, Inc., volunteer at Queen of Peacae Hospital Lifeline program for 9 years, and served on the New Prague Municipal Utilities Commission.
Warren is survived by his wife, Julie; Children, Stephanie Vincent of Luck, WI, John W Nelson of Luck, WI, Cheryl Bates (& Steve Kupatz) of Mpls., Therese (& Dave) Loomis of Toledo, OR, Dugan (& Ann) Bates of Stevenson, WA; 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren.
Services for Warren will be held Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Prague, with visitation 1 hour prior to service at church. Burial will take place at Fr. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. There will be a lunch following the service at the church fellowship hall.
