Obituary

Walter W. Kohoutek, age 91, of New Prague, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at his home.  Walter was born on December 27, 1927 in New Prague to Frank and Anna (Shimota) Kohoutek.  He attended  St. Wenceslaus School and New Prague High School and then entered the US Navy  where he was a Seabee on the USS JP Kennedy, serving in WWII.  Walter married the love of his life, Georgean Pauly on June 29, 1949 at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague.  Walter was a self-employed mechanic most of his life, was a bus driver for the New Prague School District, and finally retired as a rural mail carrier from the New Prague Post Office.  He belonged to the VFW and the American Legion. Walter enjoyed fishing, hunting, and bowling.  He took pride in mowing his lawn and his love of gardening.  He enjoyed woodworking, especially making birdhouses. Walter had a great sense of humor and was a consummate people person, enjoying nothing more than a good conversation.  His greatest joy came in time spent with his grandchildren.

Walter is survived by his wife, Georgean Kohoutek; children, Gary (Judy) Kohoutek, Sue Prochaska, Margo (Tom) Young, Nancy Martin, Dan (Gail) Kohoutek; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Jeff, Michelle, Melissa, & Jason Kohoutek; brother, Frank Kohoutek, Jr.; sister, Elizabeth Kohoutek.

Private family services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019, with military honors provided by the New Prague Color Guard.
