Urban Deutsch, age 90, of New Prague, died peacefully surrounded by his family, Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital New Prague.  Urban was born December 12, 1925, in St. Benedict, MN to Joseph and Cecelia (Yackley) Deutsch.  He was raised on the family farm in St. Benedict and attended St. Benedict School.  He entered the Navy and served in Okinawa during WWII as a fighting SeaBee.  After discharge from the Navy, Urban married Alice M. Zaun at St. Patrick Catholic Church in St. Patrick.  He farmed for Ed Novak from 1947 – 1952 and then worked as a foreman for Prokes Construction for the remainder of his career, with also a short period of time at the Creamery.  After retirement, Urban was happy in his job delivering the New Prague Times and Extra as well as the St. Paul Pioneer Press.  He was a member of the 3rd degree Knights of Columbus.  Urban carried his love of farming into a love for gardening throughout his life.  He loved to play cards and work jigsaw puzzles.

Urban is survived by his children, Ronald (Linda) Deutsch of Hampshire, IL, Clarice (Leonard) Segna of Shakopee, Randy (Rita) Deutsch of Coon Rapids, Donald Deutsch of Montgomery, JoAnn (Frank) Kuechle of Shakopee, Dan Deutsch (Joyce Kubes) of New Prague; sister-in-law, Josephine Deutsch of Jordan; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice, on August 12, 2009; his parents; 5 brothers, Werner, Wilfred, Cornelius, Edmund, & Herbert Deutsch; 6 sisters, Salesia Hartmann, Margaret Worm, Louise Heyda, Hedwig Riesgraf, Marie Deutsch, a sister in infancy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at 11:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating.  Visitation will occur Tuesday from 4-8 PM and Wednesday morning from 7:30-10:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will take place at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.  Lunch will follow at the KC Hall in New Prague.
