Steven Zard, age 64, of New Prague, died suddenly at his home Saturday, November 15, 2014. Steve was born March 14, 1950 in Watertown, South Dakota, to Donald S. and Helen M. (Doebler) Zard. At age 10, he moved with his family to Rochester, MN where he graduated from John Marshall High School in 1968. In 1972 he graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and went to work as a loan officer at American National Bank in St. Paul. He then attended the University of Puget Sound in Seattle, WA and completed his Juris Doctor degree in 1976, when he moved to New Prague and joined the Don Nold Law firm in 1977. Most recently he was a partner with Wornson, Goggins, Zard, Neisen, Morris, and Brever Law Firm. Steve served as a director for the American Title Insurance Association and was a member of the Ethics Investigation Committee for the State Bar Association. Steve was previously on the Board of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of various civic groups in the New Prague area. He loved the outdoors and every manner of fishing and hunting. In his leisure, he was a noted wine maker and had his own wine label, “Raven Wine”. He loved cooking and most recently, took on baking as well.
Steve is survived by his wife, Mary, of New Prague; children, Jennifer (& Jeff) Schoenecker of New Prague and Michael Zard (& fiancé, Lisa Cutuli) of San Diego, CA; step-children, Emily Youngerberg of Lafayette, MN, Erin Youngerberg of Jersey City, NJ, Patrick Youngerberg of Le Center, MN and Jacob Youngerberg of Apple Valley, MN; brothers, Clark (& Kathy) Zard of Nisswa, MN and Mark (& JoAnne) Zard of Caledonia, MN; 3 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Helen Zard.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 21, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague with Reverend Dr. Steven Trewartha and Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 PM on Thursday and 7:30 – 9:30 AM Friday morning at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague. Lunch will follow services at the KC Hall.
