Shirley J. Meyer, age 95, of New Prague, died peacefully, with her family at her side on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center. Shirley was born on October 11, 1925 in Wheatland Township, Rice County, MN to Theofil M. and Bessie (Novak) Kajer. She attended St. Wenceslaus School and graduated from New Prague High School. She married Donald E. Meyer on November 9, 1946 at the St. Wenceslaus Rectory in New Prague. Shirley's faith was always a central part of her life and she was active at St. Wenceslaus in her younger years. Her family took center stage and her greatest joy came in the family gatherings that would be held throughout her life. She enjoyed reading, baking, playing Bridge, Bingo and puzzles, and working in the yard. She remained independent as long as possible but when the time came to need additional help, she thoroughly enjoyed her time at Praha Village with the socialization that it provided. Her ready smile and sunny disposition will be missed by her family and her friends and caregivers.
Shirley is survived by her children, Carol (Don) Trytten of Overland Park, KS, Bruce (Deb) Meyer of New Prague, Ken (Jackie) Meyer of Eden Prairie, Paul (Terri) Meyer of Bloomington, John (Erica) Meyer of New Prague, Liz (Bob) Biaggio of Green Bay, WI; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Fritz Pumper of New Prague; sisters-in-law, Elaine McGovern of Farmington and Lorna (Joe) Docken of Webster. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don, on September 29, 2012; daughter, Dona Meyer; siblings, Grace Hudson, Glenn Kajer, Babe Pumper.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Scholastica Church in Heidelberg with Father Eugene Theisen officiating. The public may enter church beginning at 9:30; masks and social distancing are required. Burial will occur at Ft. Snelling at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the New Prague Public Library.
