Richard L. Shaughnessy, age 84, of New Prague, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012 at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.  Richard was born August 24, 1927 in Derrynane Township to Richard J. & Nora E. (Sullivan) Shaughnessy.  After marriage on October 15, 1960 in New Prague, to Rose Ann Nytes, they settled in New Prague.  Richard worked for Con Agra (then International Multifoods) and was in both the US Army during WWII and the US Air Force during the Korean War.  He is survived by: 2 sons, Allen (& Cynthia) and Jim (& Kelly); 3 daughters, Peg (& Robert) Olsem, Erin Ziehl, Joan (& Mike) Dubanoski; 1 sister: Mary  (& Clarence) Jirak; 9 grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 24, 2002; son, David; son-in-law, Erich Ziehl; 6 brothers, Melvin, Dennis, John, Emmett, Billy, & Daniel; 2 sisters, Alice Shaughnessy, Theresa Huss.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 at Bruzek Funeral Home from 9 – 10:30 AM.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Casketbearers will be the grandchildren and military rites will be conducted.  Lunch will follow at the KC Hall.
