Ray Schoenecker, age 91, of New Prague, died Sunday, October 21, 2102 at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in New Prague. Ray was born February 28, 1921 in Belle Plaine Township, Scott County to John J. and Adeline M. (Busch) Schoenecker. He married Dorothy R. “Dor” Matyas on August 18, 1945 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. A lifelong resident of New Prague, Ray graduated from NPHS and was the owner/operator of New Prague Feed Mill. Previously he worked at New Prague Robin Hood Mill. Ray served in the Army during WWII and was part of the armored division that helped liberate Dachau Concentration Camp. Ray was active in the 3rd & 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the New Prague VFW & American Legion (served as Commander of the NP Military Honor Guard), served with the NP Fire Dept. for 31 years and was a former Chief, was former Mayor of NP and on City Council, and was a charter member of Scott-LeSueur Minnesota Waterfowl Assoc., NP Sportsmen Club, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and Turkey Federation.
Ray is survived by his wife, Dor; children, Susan (& John) Bilek of Pine River, Edward (& Kathy) Schoenecker of Bloomington, Doug (& Vera) Schoenecker of New Prague, Mary Ray (& Paul) Jirik of Lonsdale; 11 Grandchildren; 7 Great-Grandchildren; Sisters Aurelia Mares of New Prague, Verena Moriarity of Forest Lake, Lorraine Dvorak of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lillian Quinlan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at Bruzek Funeral Home from 4 – 8 PM on Wednesday, October 24th and from 7:30 – 9:30 AM on Thursday. Military rites will be conducted. Lunch will be served at the KC Hall. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.
