Paul Michael Flick, age 77, of New Prague, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday October 22, 2015 at his home. He was born on May 20, 1938 to Paul Walter and Dorothy (Hartman) Flick. Paul graduated from Kenyon High School in 1956. Following graduation, he attended St John’s University for two years before transferring to Mankato State University, where he received both Bachelor and Masters degrees. On August 20, 1960, he married Rosanne Schmidt from Waterville, MN. He started his career in Cleveland MN, where he was a teacher, coach and principal. During that time, he worked for Pat Smith as a deputy sheriff for Le Sueur County. In 1967, Paul moved his family to New Prague and started his career as the Junior High Principal, the post he retired from in 1993. Paul was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, served on many boards including St Wenceslaus, Queen of Peace Hospital, New Prague Golf Course, New Prague Police Commissioner Board and many more. Paul also served two terms as Mayor of New Prague. In retirement, Paul enjoyed his “juice run” volunteering at Mala Strana and his side job at New Prague Golf Course.
Paul is survived by his wife, Rosanne, of 55 years, son, Paul (Tonja) Flick; daughters, Susan (Brad) Gainor, Jenny (Brian) Reis; grandchildren Katelyn, Paul, Andrew (Kelsey), Dalton, Alex, Calley, Levi; and great granddaughter Payton. He is also survived by his brother Peter (Jeannine) and sister Mimi (Lloyd) Law. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John.
“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world” Nelson Mandella. These are the words that Paul lived by. Paul taught all those around him to put God first, that family is the most important thing in the world, and to cherish lasting friendships. There is not a man more deserving to sit next to God. He was a blessing to everyone he met, and he left the world better than he found it. Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 26 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. In Honor of Our Dad
One thing Dad was known for was that he was always dressed to the nines. His tie collection would rival the best of them. To honor our Dad, his son, son-in-laws, grandsons and great granddaughter will be representing his amazing style by wearing an array of ties in colors of red from his personal collection. Please join us in honoring our wonderful Dad by wearing a red inspired tie on Monday to his funeral service.
