Obituary

Omer Krautkremer, age 94 and survivor of Pearl Harbor, died Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital New Prague.  Omer was born to Nicholas & Christina (Lambrecht) Krautkremer in St. Benedict on August 10, 1919.  He attended school and was raised in the St. Benedict area and then entered the US Navy.  He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and served also in the European theater during WWII.  He would serve with the Navy for 20 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer.  After retirement, he continued to work with the government at Ft. Snelling in Minneapolis.  Omer married Rose A. White on May 12, 1946 in Long Island, NY; Rose died  in February of 1977.  He then married Julia (Jirik) Schoenbauer on April 14, 1978 at New Prague.  Omer was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the Knights of Columbus.  He was passionate about gardening and fishing.

Omer is survived by his wife, Julia, of New Prague; children, Linda (& Michael) Bateman of Dunedin, FL, Richard (& Carolyn) Krautkremer of Plymouth, MN, Sandra (& Robert) Morrison of Owasso, OK; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosella Riesgraf of Belle Plaine, MN; sisters-in-law, Gladys Krautkremer Busch of New Prague and Mary Ann Krautkremer of Montgomery.  He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose A. (White) Krautkremer; brothers, Victor, Andrew, & Alvin Krautkremer; sisters,  Viola Lucas, Mathilda “Tillie” Mayerhoffer, Philomena Geis, Geraldine Dohmen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 11, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father David Barrett officiating.  Visitation will take place Thursday from 4 – 8 PM and Friday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will occur at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis on Monday, July 14th.  Military Rites will be conducted.  Lunch will follow Mass at the Legion Clubroom in New Prague.
