Myles “Milo” “Rocky” Jilek, age 86, of New Prague, died Sunday, May 4, 2014 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale,MN. Myles was born July 27, 1927 in Lanesburgh Township, Le Sueur County, Minnesota to Frank J. & Clara (Korbel) Jilek. He attended the Le Sueur County District School and New Prague High School. He served in the US Navy as a SeaBee and was a Shipfitter 3rd Class. On October 14, 1950, Myles married Beatrice M. Ambroz at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Heidelberg, MN. A lifelong resident of New Prague area, Myles wore many hats. He farmed all his life, owned and operated a milk route for six years, worked for the Le Sueur County Highway Dept. for 36 years, and served as a road overseer for Lanesburgh Township for 14 years. Myles was a member of the New Prague Police Reserve and Ambulance Service for over 35 years, a member of the American Legion and VFW, and served as an usher at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church for over 25 years. He enjoyed sports and was a huge Vikings fan. He played baseball, softball, bowling, and basketball. On one occasion, he played in a benefit basketball game against the Harlem Globetrotters! Polka music, fishing, and playing cards, particularly Euchre, were favorite pastimes.
Myles is survived by his wife, Bea of New Prague; children, Richard (& Diana) of Shakopee, Gary (& Sharon) of Mapleton, Jim (& Betty) of New Prague, Kathy (& Matthew) Jilek-Mckenna of Faribault; 12 grandchildren; 19 Great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Jilek; sister, Lorraine O’Connell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Visitation will take place Wednesday from 4 – 8 PM and Thursday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home. Interment will take place at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted. Serving as pallbearers will be grandchildren, Lisa Quast, Scott Jilek, Paul Jilek, Jon Jilek, Chris Jilek, Melissa Wann, Cassie Wirth, Dani Ellsworth, Dalton Mechura, Dylan Mechura. Lunch will follow burial at the KC Hall.
