Michael G. Speltz, age 62, of Cedar Lake/New Prague, died peacefully at home with his family on Tuesday, November 25, 2014.  Mike was born August 20, 1952 in Minneapolis, MN to Edward & Bernice (Strouth) Speltz.  He grew up in Minneapolis, graduating from Benilde High School. On February 17, 1990, Mike married Lorie D. Theisen in Waverly, MN.  Mike worked as an independent construction contractor,  as the Convention Services Manager for Radisson South Hotel, and most recently worked in independent sales.  He was a 4th Degree KC, a board member of Cedar Lake Improvement Association, and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity.  Mike loved hunting and fishing; entertaining friends with grilling and cooking was a valued leisure activity but above all, was his love for his family.

Mike is survived by his wife, Lorie, of Cedar Lake/New Prague; children, Wenonah (& Ben) Carmody of Kansas City, KS, Eugene (& Angie) Speltz of New Prague; grandchildren, Ira, Greg, Joe, Lydia Carmody, and Paige, Lainey, Charlie Speltz; brother, Joseph (& Marie) Speltz of St. Paul; sisters, Ann (& Brad) Eagle of Alpena, MI, Amy (& Steve) Nelson of Bloomington, MN; father-in-law, Kenneth Theisen of Waverly, MN.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed & Bernice (Strouth) Speltz; sister, Judy Washington; mother-in-law, Delores Theisen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 1, 2014 at 10 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father David Barrett officiating.  Visitation will take place Sunday from 5 – 8 PM and Monday from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will occur at St. Patrick Cemetery in St. Patrick, MN.  Lunch will follow at the KC Hall in New Prague. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the local chapters of Care for the Wounded or Habitat for Humanity.
