Mary Genevieve Vondrasek, age 91 of New Prague died on the morning of Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Mala Strana nursing home in New Prague, MN. Mary was born on January 5, 1923 to Mary ‘Marie’ Vondrasek in St. Paul, MN. She attended St. Wenceslaus School through 8th grade. As a young adult, she worked for two local restaurants and also babysat for a local family. The majority of her working days, however, were spent in dietary work at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague where she was employed for almost 20 years.
Mary had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed working in her flower gardens and watching the birds at her feeder. One of her favorite childhood memories was going to a local park with her mom to watch the fireworks and afterwards getting some candy. She never outgrew her love of fireworks and looked forward to watching them every Fourth of July. She was also an avid reader, “devouring” almost every book she could get her hands on and had a special interest in the British royal family. She enjoyed taking trips to Minneapolis and Le Center to visit relatives and once flew to Washington D.C to visit a friend and go sightseeing. Mary was a devout Catholic whose positive attitude and joyful spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by cousins, and church and community friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her mother, Mary ‘Marie’, who died in 1966.
