Obituary

Mary Kabes, age 97, of New Prague, died peacefully Saturday, November 28, 2015, at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center.  Mary was born August 21, 1918, In Lonsdale, MN, to Jacob and Rose (Havel) Uhlir.  She attended school in Lonsdale and was a lifelong resident of the Lonsdale/New Prague area.  She married Edward J. Kabes on September 7, 1943, in Lonsdale and spent her life participating fully in the work of farming and raising her family.  She loved anything to do with sewing, including crocheting and especially quilting.  She also enjoyed playing cards and listening to old time music.

Mary is survived by daughter-in-law, Marlene Kabes of New Prague; son-in-law, Lawrence (Mary) Trnka of Montgomery; grandchildren, Bill (Renae) Kabes of New Prague, Cindy (Brent) Schultz-Wade of New Market, Lori (Chad) Brekke of Brooklyn Park, Randy Trnka of Le Center, Steve (Sue) Trnka of Lake Crystal, Sue (Jeremy) Schwartz of Waterville, Mike Trnka of Montgomery; granddaughter-in-law, Sheryl Trnka of Carver; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Esther Kabes; nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Kabes on January 11, 2003; parents; sons, Edward F. and William G. (in infancy); daughter, Mary Trnka; brothers, Richard, Bill, Frank, and Emil Uhlir; sisters, Betty Skluzacek and Elizabeth (in infancy); grandson, Russ Trnka.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 3, 2015, at 10 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Brekke officiating.  Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to service.  Burial will follow services at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery and lunch will follow at the Legion Clubroom in New Prague.
