Mary Kay Ambroz, age 94, of Shakopee, formerly of New Prague, died Friday, December 18, 2015, at her home in Shakopee. Mary Kay was born July 7, 1921, in Derrynane Township, Le Sueur County, MN, to Martin B. and Catherine (Weibeler) Meger. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School and St. Mary’s School of Nursing (later College of St. Catherine) and worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis before and after her military service in the Army Nurse Corps. Mary Kay entered active service in the U.S. Army on April 3, 1943 and served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater as a 1st Lt. Registered Nurse for the 154th General Hospital. She was honorably discharged January 10, 1946 at Camp Sibert, Alabama. On May 1, 1948, Mary Kay married Robert F. Ambroz at St. Scholastica Carholic Church in Heidelberg, MN. Mary Kay became a homemaker in her own home where the couple raised their family together. Mary Kay enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and loved to read. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed popular, old time, and classical music.
Mary Kay is survived by her children, Micki (& Scottie) Ziskovsky of Lonsdale, MN, Bob (& Mary Sue) Ambroz, Jr. of New Prague, MN, JoAnn (& Bill) Swanson of Pine River, MN, Bill (& Teresa) Ambroz of Apple Valley, MN, Chuck (& Cindy) Ambroz of Webster, MN; sisters-in-law, Anne Meger and Helen Meger, both of Le Center, MN; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Ambroz; her parents; brothers, Joseph M. “Bud” Meger, Robert G. “Chub” Meger; sister, Elizabeth T. “Babe” Plonske.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 10 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Father David Barrett officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 22nd from 4 – 8 PM and Wednesday morning from 7:30 – 10:00 AM also at the funeral home. Burial will take place at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with military honors conducted by the New Prague Veterans Honor Guard. Lunch will follow at the Legion Clubroom in New Prague.
