Marcella Witt, age 95, of New Prague, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Mala Strana Health Care Center. Marcella was born April 20, 1917 to Louis W. & Mary (Pavlicek) Svobodny. She attended St. Wenceslaus School and was raised in New Prague. Marcy married Fred J. Witt on June 11, 1940 in New Prague and the couple lived in Lonsdale and Le Center before settling permanently in New Prague. Marcy worked as an aide in the kitchen at Community Memorial Hospital in New Prague and also as a nursing assistant in Mala Strana Nursing Home. She sang with the New Prague Czech Singers, was a member of various sewing clubs, and volunteered at Mala Strana Health Care Facility. Marcy loved to bake and do needle work and loved playing cards.
Marcella is survived by her children, Shirley Kohout of New Prague, Helen (& Jack) McGovern of Hermantown, MN, Karen Witt of Las Vegas, Rick (& PattiAnn) Witt of Lakeville; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Fred, on November 25, 1990; her parents; brothers, Robert Svobodny, and Stanley Svobodny; son-in-law, Marty Kohout.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home with visitation 2 hours prior to mass. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery and lunch will follow at the Legion Clubroom in New Prague.
