Marcella Prokes, age 84, of Shakopee, formerly of New Prague, died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at St. Gertrude’s Health & Rehabilitation Center in Shakopee.  Marcella was born on November 12, 1929 in Cedar Lake Township, Scott County, MN to Frank J. & Mary (Hanzal) Stepka.  She attended Scott County District School #47 and New Prague High School and married Emil E. Prokes on April 26, 1949 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in St. Patrick, MN.  Marcella worked as a Dietary Supervisor at Mala Strana Nursing home from 1972 – 1994.  She was a member of St. Wenceslaus CCW and St. Gertrude’s Bell Choir.  Marcella did a lot of crocheting, enjoyed playing cards at St. Gert’s, and especially enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren.

Marcella is survived by her children, Edward (& Laura) of New Prague, Michael (& Debbie) of New Prague, Donna (& Larry) Stresnak of Jordan; daughter-in-law, Sharon Prokes of Heber Springs, Arkansas; sister, Maggie Vick of North St. Paul; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Stepka of Veseli, Marcie Stepka of New Prague, Margaret Beiser of New Prague, Delores Prokes of Montgomery.  She is preceded in death by her husband Emil on October 25, 1957; daughter, Mary Jane Prokes; brothers, Jerry, George, & Stanley Stepka; sisters, Elsie Prokes, Helen, Mary, and baby sister Stepka; brother-in-law, Dennis Vick.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father John Lapensky officiating.  Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 – 8 PM and Thursday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will follow Mass at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with the grandchildren serving as pallbearers.  There will be a lunch at the Legion Clubroom in New Prague.
