Lillian (Tietz) Doherty, age 93, of New Prague, died peacefully at home on Friday, August 28, 2015. Lillian was born on January 29, 1922, in Helena Township, Scott County, MN to Frank W. and Anna N. (Novotny) Novak. Lillian was a lifelong resident of New Prague, attending Scott County District School, St. Wenceslaus School, and graduating from New Prague High School. She married Ewald A. Tietz on July 8, 1944 at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lanesburgh, MN. Ewald died in December 1969 and Lillian married Melvin Doherty on July 16, 1987. She worked for Village Bath Products in Jonathan for 20 years. Lillian was a member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church for 70 years and a member of Ladies Aid at church.
Lillian is survived by her children, Dahlia (& Larry) Beno of Mound, Terry (& Pat) Tietz of Montgomery, Becky (& Tim) Freeman of Des Moines, IA, Steve (& LeeAnn) Tietz of Santa Cruz, CA, Matthew (& special friend, Brook) of Louisville, KY; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Ewald Tietz in December 1969 & Melvin Doherty in September 2013; son, Ernest F. “Ernie” Tietz; granddaughter, Robin Kline; brothers, Emil and Benjamin J. Novak.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 2 PM at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Henry Koch officiating. Visitation will occur 1 hour prior to service. Burial is in the church cemetery followed by lunch in the church fellowship hall.
