Obituary

Levi Perry Schelhaas, age 15, of New Prague, Minnesota, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Friday, August 21, 2026, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. Levi was born on May 3, 2011, in New Prague, to Zachary and Brittany (Mude) Schelhaas.

From the moment he entered the world, Levi brought a whirlwind of energy and creativity with him. He was riding a two-wheel bike without training wheels before his third birthday and sewing Christmas stockings and pillowcases by age four. He was a natural builder and fabricator starting with Legos, moving to woodworking, and ending with steel. Levi was all around smart and creative. When e-bikes became popular Levi wanted one but didn’t want to buy one. He used his old mountain bike, ordered parts off Amazon, and made his own.

Together with his brother, Preston, he owned a small engine repair business out of the family’s shop. Levi was the mechanic and affectionately called Preston his receptionist. He enjoyed deer hunting with his grandpa, Greg, and fishing – the catching but not the waiting. Levi was a great big brother to Ashton, the two loved riding dirtbikes and shooting TikTok videos. He was very mischievous and he lived to have fun. He could make any boring situation something to laugh and enjoy.

Riding dirt bikes was his life and biggest passion; he also participated in races and brought home trophies. He enjoyed snowmobiling because you can’t ride dirt bike in the winter and hiking but only because he was on two wheels with his segway. Levi was about to enter his sophomore year at New Prague High School. He will be greatly missed, but his spirit will forever ride alongside us.

Levi is survived by his parents, Zach and Brittany; brothers, Preston and Ashton; grandparents, Ken Schelhaas, Sonia Schelhaas, Greg Mude, and Mariea (Kelley Sharp) Montanye; great-grandparents, Bev and Dale Mude, Anna Sheprow, and Vernon Schelhaas; uncles and aunt, Justin Mude, Max (Libby) Schelhaas, and Beau Montanye; cousin, Marlie Schelhaas; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his great-grandma, Annabelle Schelhaas; great-grandpa, Ray Sheprow; great-great-grandma, Gertrude Zielsdorf; aunt, Trudy Schelhaas; and uncle, Perry Mude.

The funeral service for Levi will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Word of Life Church – Le Sueur Campus, 890 Kingsway Drive, Le Sueur, Minnesota 56058. The visitation will take place from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague and will continue for one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, plants and trees are preferred so the family can add them to the memorial they are building for Levi on the racetrack at home.
