Obituary

LeRoy Herbert Geiger, 85, with his family by his side, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 25th, 2023. As a man loved by his family and one who valued and respected his many friends, his absence is profoundly felt by all those blessed to have known him.

LeRoy was born on December 27th, 1937 in Jordan, Minnesota. Growing up on the farm instilled in LeRoy a strong work ethic that never left him. He later demonstrated his love of country by giving four years to the United States Air Force, a time he spent in England, Scotland, and Libya. After service, he was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

It was only when LeRoy arrived back stateside, however, that he found his deepest love, Jean. LeRoy met her at West End Bowling Alley in New Prague and married her soon after. The vows they exchanged on their wedding day were not only reinforced by the sixty-three years they spent by each other's side, but also by their five children, sixteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

One of the key pillars in LeRoy's life was the St. Wenceslaus Church, school, and community. A devoted Catholic, he spent 25 years as a Communion Outreach Minister and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. As the founder of Geiger Construction, LeRoy earned an excellent reputation for craftsmanship from his customers and for loyalty from his employees. LeRoy spent his retirement years as a handyman, dedicating his time to improving the lives of family and friends.

LeRoy lacked an ounce of pretension and was the height of class. He enjoyed simple pleasures: playing cards and golf with his family and friends, watching his children succeed in their many activities, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. LeRoy was a passionate, considerate man who left no job undone, no friend unappreciated, and no family member unloved.

LeRoy is survived by his loving wife, Jean of New Prague; children, Lorie Zachary of New Prague, Duane (Joni) Geiger of Prior Lake, Julie Litzau of New Prague, Ronald (Lori) Geiger of New Prague, Joseph (Angela) Geiger of New Prague; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Sharon) Geiger of New Prague; sister, Carol Ann (Bill) Turner-Peterson of Pine Island, FL; sister-in-law, Dorothy Geiger of New Prague. He is preceded in death by his son-in-laws, Davis Zachary and Chet Barger; parents, Elmer & Alvina Geiger; brother, Donald; sister, Rosemary VonBank.
