Judy Cay Dohm, age 66, fought a courageous three-year battle with Leukemia that ended on November 30th. She passed peacefully at the University of Minnesota Medical Center with her beloved cousin Lora at her side, and her family having had the opportunity to say their heartfelt, and all too soon, goodbyes.
Born to Lonnie and Lois Webb on November 11, 1955, in Rockford, IL, the Webb family moved to New Prague in 1970, where Judy graduated from high school in 1973. She loved farm life, was active in FFA and had a passion for horses.
Judy met her husband Brian while working at his Village Inn restaurant in New Prague in 1972. They married in December of the following year and went on to have 3 boys and cared for numerous foster children. Together, Judy and Brian owned and operated the House of Pizza (Village Inn) and Dairy Queen over a period of more than 30 years, and in doing so, Judy greatly enjoyed working with and touching the lives of literally hundreds of New Prague high school kids working what was often their first job.
A five foot nothing force of nature, Judy put her whole heart into everything she did, and was known for her great exuberance and excess. Christmas was always celebrated with the extended family and included horse drawn wagon rides and quantities of cookies that filled the porch shelves until June most years. And high school game day breakfasts were famous for including the entire sports teams, not just her boys.
She was an ardent supporter of her children and grandchildren and ensured that all educational, sports, and cultural wants and needs were always met. From swimming and music lessons to horseback riding, wrestling, and hockey, Judy was always encouraging, enrolling, and transporting her brood when needed.
Judy dearly loved reading and spending time with her family, friends, and canine companions at their home in Mexico and traveled there at every available opportunity. She took great joy in finding and fulfilling unique needs and desires of those close to her, and those that were fortunate enough to experience that are all better having known her.
Judy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Brian Dohm, her sons, and grandchildren - Jeremy Dohm (Jessica and daughter Soumya), Joshua (children Kyra and Lawson), and Elijah (Kristin and children Dakota and Kai), her mother Lois Webb, and siblings David Webb (New Prague), Allen Webb (Savage, MN), Kathy Roberts (Palm Coast, FL), and Margie Webb (Lakeville, MN). She is preceded in death by her father Lonnie and brother Donald.
It should come as no surprise to those who know and love her that Judy would have been late to her own funeral. It is fortuitous then that Judy chose not to have a formal memorial service and instead requested a celebration of life picnic with immediate family to be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, Judy requested donations on her behalf to the following community organizations; St. Wenceslaus School, DalekoArts, or Wee3Beasties.
