John F. Havlicek, age 90, of New Prague, died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Mala Strana Health Care Center. JOhn was born in Veseli, MN on June 25, 1921 to John J. and Emily (Hruza) Havlicek. He grew up in Veseli and served in the Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He married Angela Rose Barta in Oct. 12, 1948 in Lonsdale. Following his military service, the couple farmed for 11 years at Cedar Lake and then returned to farming in Veseli for 17 years before moving into New Prague. He finished up his career at MVE as a machine operator for 10 years before full retirement. After retiring, he helped his wife, Angie, in the senior dining and Meals on Wheels program. He was also active in the Veseli Men’s Club, the KD’s, and American Legion.
John is survived by his children, Joyce Kubes (& Dan Deutsch), Shirley (& Gary) Simon, Joanne (& Ray) Wolf, John (& Lisa) Havlicek, Sharon Havlicek; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Martha Svoboda, Eleanor Novak, Roselyn (& Roman) Ceplecha. He was preceded in death by his wife, Angie on March 18, 2012, grandson, Marc Simon, and great-granddaughter, Grace Anna Dols.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 10 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague with burial following at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted. Visitation is Monday from 4 – 7 PM and Tuesday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home.
