Joan Mae Mickus, age 82, of Savage, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at her home. Joan was born July 27, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to Edward F. & Mae D. (Dougal) Reichelt. Joan graduated from Trinity High School in River Forest, Illinois, went on to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Mt. Mary College in Milwaukee, WI in 1953 and ultimately a post graduate degree in the treatment of Cerebral Palsy in 1958. She married James C. Mickus on November 21, 1959 in Wheaton, Illinois. Joan worked as a Registered Occupational Therapist in both Springfield, Illinois and the U of M Hospital in Minneapolis. She loved Bridge and was an avid reader.
Joan is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jim of Savage; daughter, Colleen (& Brian) Johnson of Savage; sons, Dr. David (& Gala) Mickus of Phoenix, AZ and Dr.Daniel (& Susan) of Mahtomedi, MN; six grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mae (Dougal) Reichelt and sister, Patricia Duggan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 6:30 PM at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Bloomington with Fr. Brian Fier officiating. Visitation at church will take place 1 hour prior to Mass. Private interment will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague. The family expresses deep gratitude to Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, AZ and to Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital Hospice in St. Louis Park.
