Obituary

Jack Lepeska, age 85, of New Prague, died Monday, October 12, 2015, at Mala Strana Health Care Center.  Jack was born September 5, 1930, in Lonsdale, MN to John A. and Ludmilla A. (Schoenbauer) Lepeska.  He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and New Prague High School.  He entered the US Army and served in the Korean War.  After his time in the service, Jack worked as an itinerant worker all over the United States, doing much of his travel by train.  He had a very strong work ethic and worked in many areas, including the ore boats in Duluth, state fairs, strawberry picking, and a restaurant famous for its fish boils, where he was the keeper of the fire under the fish kettles.  Here his sense of humor exhibited itself and he would often give guests an extra bit of entertainment by supplying that fire with a little extra accelerant.  He was very generous to his many nieces and nephews.  He was called “Unc” by all, not just family and was loved everywhere he went, most recently by all at Mala Strana.  He created one of the bronze plaques for the Towering to Our Future art installation at Philipp Park on the west side of New Prague.  Finally, Jack loved the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs, often teasing Minnesota fans with “the Packers are going to beat the Twins.”

Jack is survived by his sister, Genevieve (& Robert) Rockwood of Lakeville; his brother, Wilfred (& Marilyn) Lepeska of Twin Lakes, WI; many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and -nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 16, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Father Dave Barrett officiating.  Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to Mass, starting at 10 AM.  Burial will follow Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Lonsdale where military honors will be conducted.  Lunch will follow at the Lonsdale Legion Club.
