Helen Kabes, age 91, of Madison Lake, formerly of New Prague, died Friday, July 11, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital Mankato. Helen was born August 18, 1922 in Webster Township, Rice County, Minnesota to Vaclav & Mary (Pavek) Voracek. She attended Lonsdale Catholic School. On November 4, 1940 Helen married Myles F. Kabes and was a lifelong resident of New Prague. Helen worked at Anchor Glass in Shakopee for 20 years as an inspector. She was a charter member of the New Prague and Montgomery Farmers’ Market, where it was common to see her wares; she enjoyed gardening, needlework, and quilting.
Helen is survived by daughter, Eva (& Raphael) Malecha of Madison Lake; daughter-in-law, Dolly Kabes of New Prague; sisters-in-law, Ester Kabes and Mary Kabes, both of New Prague; 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Myles on January 29, 1966; sons, Raymond & Richard; parents; brothers, John N., Frank V., James J., and Valentine S. Voracek; sisters, Adeline Moravec, Mary Barta, Agnes Novotny, and Lillian Simek.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father David Barrett officiating. Visitation will occur Monday from 4 – 8 PM and Tuesday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will take place at the church cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall.
