Harriet Schoenbauer, age 93, of New Prague, died on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital New Prague. Harriet was born on August 9, 1921 in Lanesburgh Township, Le Sueur County, MN to John F. & Mary (Korbel) Jirak. She grew up in Montgomery and attended Montgomery Public Schools. On November 21, 1944 Harriet married Raymond F. Schoenbauer in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple made their home in New Prague, where Harriet joined her husband in farming. She also worked for both the New Prague School district and the Park Ballroom lending her talents in both cooking and cleaning. Harriet was a member and past president of 3rd District American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, St. Wenceslaus Council of Catholic Women, and served many years on the St. Wenceslaus Parish Council. Harriet’s cooking expertise led to her writing a cookbook and her love of gardening resulted in a greenhouse, where she sold some of her plantings. She also enjoyed quilting, embroidering, and fishing.
Harriet is survived by her sons, Gary (& Mary) of New Prague, Roger (& Angie) of Jordan, Allen of New Prague, Dan of Jordan; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence (& Mary) Jirak of New Prague; sister-in-law, Marion Jirak of New Prague. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray on September 10, 2006; daughter, Mary Kay Schoenbauer; great-grandson, Codey Schoenbauer; great-granddaughter, Paige Schoenbauer; brothers, Eugene, Harry, and Milo Jirak.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday from 5 – 8 PM and Saturday morning from 7:30 – 10:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home. The American Legion Auxiliary will conduct a short prayer service at 7:30 PM on Friday. Lunch will follow mass at the Legion Clubroom. Burial will occur on Monday at Fr. Snelling National Cemetery.
