10:00 - 11:00 am (Central time)
Gladys L. Mader, age 85, of Lonsdale, passed away on April 23, 2026.
Gladys was born in New Prague and grew up on her family farm near Cedar Lake. She graduated from New Prague High School and remained deeply connected to farm life, continuing to work alongside her family. In 1960, she met the love of her life, Roman, and they were married in 1961. Together, they purchased their own farm in Lonsdale, where they built a life and raised their family.
A true country woman, Gladys found joy in the simple pleasures of rural life. She took great pride in tending her garden, caring for her home, and spending time outdoors in the sunshine. She was often seen riding her bike into town and had a deep appreciation for traditional Czech music, especially listening to KCHK Radio. In her younger years, she loved to dance, and Roman frequently took her out to enjoy an evening together.
Gladys cherished community traditions, especially celebrating Dozinky Days in New Prague. She had a special fondness for her cats, who kept watch over the farm, and she took pride in maintaining a neat and well-kept yard. She lived a humble, hardworking life, rooted in tradition, which shaped her strength and resilience. Above all, she loved her family and will be deeply missed.
Gladys is survived by her sons, Jeff Mader and Brad Mader; and siblings, Richard Novotny and Alfred Novotny.; along with nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Mary (Franek) Novotny; her husband, Roman; siblings, Stella Vlasak, Mildred Moran, Gillard Novotny, and Martin Novotny
A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery. Memorials are preferred to the family.
