Obituary

Gerald R. “Jerry” Edberg, age 81, of New Prague, died at his home on Saturday, July 15, 2017.  Jerry was born on May 24, 1936, in Minneapolis to Clare E.A. and Henrietta (Ohland) Edberg.  He was raised in East Union and attended public school in Chaska, graduating from Chaska High School.  He served in the US Army for 2 years and married Charlotte A. Weiers on May 7, 1960 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill.  Jerry was a Captain for Eastern Airlines and was a member of ALPA Union.  His love of flying translated into a hobby operating remote control airplanes.  A love of the outdoors led him to a life-long interest in canoeing, with multiple trips to the BWCA.  He also enjoyed playing cards and working jigsaw puzzles.  His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of New Prague; daughter, Michelle (& Jerry) Dehnel of Prior Lake; son, Brian (& Dawn) Edberg of New Prague; daughter-in-law, Wendy Edberg of Shakopee; sister Pat (& Errol) Stai of East Union; grandchildren, Zachary, Ashley, Amanda, Luke, & Dylan.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Clare & Henrietta (Ohland) Edberg; son, Robert L. Edberg.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 4:00 PM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Father Kevin Clinton officiating.  Visitation will take place 2 hours prior to Mass beginning at 2:00 PM.  Burial with military honors will take place at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with lunch following at New Day Church.
