Georgia “Georgie” Meskan, age 67, of New Prague, died unexpectedly on April 1, 2016 at her home. Georgia was born on April 27, 1948, in Bismarck, North Dakota to George J. and Goldie A. (Robins) Sauer. She attended Holy Angels Parochial School and received her Elementary Education degree from St. Cloud State College, Special Education degree and Master of Education in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders from Mankato State College. She moved to Minneapolis in 1963, moved to New Prague, MN when she got her first teaching job in 1971, and married John E. Meskan in 1972. Georgia taught at St. Wenceslaus and the New Prague School District where she nurtured and helped students develop a love of learning. She helped numerous people get their GED and started a school within a school program for at-risk students. Georgia and John spent their lives in New Prague among many good friends and family. Georgia will be remembered as a kind, loving mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend. She loved singing with John, traveling and spending time with her family.
Georgia is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, John Meskan on September 29, 2014; father, George Sauer. She is survived by her loving daughters, Andria (Mark) Reiland of New Prague and Elizabeth (Aaron) Neiderhiser of Minneapolis; mother, Goldie Sauer of New Prague; siblings, Katherine Flynn of Edina, Patricia (John) Hardy of Myponga, Australia, Joe Sauer of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Judy Wasilowski of Eagan; brother-in-law, Carl Englund of Ham Lake; many nieces and nephews. Also survived by her shining lights – her grandchildren – Will, Lauren, Beau, Beckett, Jacob, Elle, and Camille.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 10:00 AM with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Visitation will take place Wednesday from 4-8 PM and Thursday morning from 7:30-9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will take place at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at Ridges of Sand Creek, Jordan. No outside food may be donated to the lunch. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
