George John Bastyr, age 79, passed away suddenly at his lake home on July 4, 2014. George was born on January 29, 1935 in Helena Township, Scott County to Frank H. & Anna R. (Topic) Bastyr. He attended St. Benedict School and was raised in New Prague. After his marriage to Ruth Rose Glander on December 7, 1966 in Mankato, the couple moved to Jordan and then returned to New Prague in 1992. George farmed, painted, raised chickens, worked construction, and then went to work at a foundry in Chaska as a head molder. He loved fishing, hunting, and 4-wheeling on his cabin at Blueberry Lake.
George is survived by his sisters, Marian Mach of New Prague, Dorothy (& Leonard) Lubbers of Shakopee, and Genevieve (& Alvin) Novotny of New Prague; brothers, Leonard (& Janice) Bastyr of Shakopee, and Raymond (Dee) Bastyr of Burnsville; brother-in-law, Bernard Trezinsky of New Prague; step-children, Myron (& Sandy) Hahn of Deer River, MN, Howard Hahn of Spicer, WI, Darlin (& John) Tobeck of Grand Rapids, MN; many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth on February 26, 2012; his parents; brothers, Frank, Jr. and Eugene; sisters, Clara Bastyr, Lillian Bastyr, Adeline Trezinsky; sister and brother-in-law, Elsie (& William) Uhlir; brother-in-law, Frank Mach.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Reverend Diane Goulson officiating. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 4 – 8 PM and Thursday morning from 7:30 – 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will occur at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Arlington, MN following the lunch at the Legion Clubroom.
