Genevieve M. Schmitz, age 83, of New Prague, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at home. Gen was born on January 30, 1934, in New Prague, to Math F. and Catherine H. (Solheid) Pint. She attended elementary school in Union Hill and graduated from New Prague High School. She married Milo J. Schmitz on October 4, 1958 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill. Gen was dedicated, first and foremost, to her home and family but also worked at delis at Don’s Red Owl and Fairway Foods and as a bookkeeper for Hennes Feedmill. She belonged to St. Wenceslaus CCW throughout her life. In her early years, she loved to bowl and throughout her life, she was an avid card player, belonging to numerous card clubs. Visiting the casino was another favorite pastime. Gen thoroughly enjoyed baseball and was the #1 fan for both the Minnesota Twins and the New Prague Orioles. Her children and grandchildren were the top priorities in her life and she enthusiastically attended every event that her grandchildren were involved in.
Gen is survived by her children, Karen (& Fred) Spear, Ken (& Betty) Schmitz, Bob (& Tami) Schmitz, Kim (& Joe) Wagner, Brad (& Nicole) Schmitz, Tami (& Shawn) Anderson all of New Prague; sisters, Betty (& Lambert) Hoffman of St. Paul, Janet Busch of New Prague, Mary Clair (& Mike) Fyock of VA; brother, Jim (& Maria) Pint of New Prague; brother-in-law, Fritz Ruzicka of New Prague; sister-in-law, Ann (& Jack) Pint of New Prague, Lynn Pint of Colorado; 17 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Milo on June 24, 2011; parents; brothers, Richard, Robert, and Math Pint; sister, Judy Ruzicka.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Visitation will take place Wednesday from 4-8 PM and Thursday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall.
