Gene Musil, age 86 of New Prague, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Mayo Health System Hospital New Prague. Gene was born September 6, 1927 in New Prague to Joseph B. & Mary B. (Janu) Musil. Gene attended St. Wenceslaus School and New Prague High School. He served in the US Army and after service, married Luverne “Liz” Beckius on June 30, 1962 in Jordan, MN. Gene worked as a Production Scheduler/Supervisor for International Multifoods for 47 years, retiring in 1987. In retirement, he worked part-time at the New Prague Golf Club and at Don’s Super Value/Econo Foods. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed golfing, bowling, softball, and especially card playing. Gene always enjoyed seeing his grandkids and extended family at “Cheers”; his warmth and infectious smile made him friends with everyone he met.
Gene is survived by his wife of 51 1/2 years, Liz; children, Mary (& Dave) Duwenhoegger of Maple Grove and Tom (& Angie) Musil of New Prague; grandchildren, Allie, Nate, Danny, & Ryan; sister, Carolyn (& Milo) Rynda of New Prague; nephew, Roger (& Nancy) Musil of New Prague. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard & Harold Musil; grandson, Sam Duwenhoegger.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Visitation will take place 2 hours prior to mass from 9:00 – 11:00 also at church. Military rites will be conducted at the burial at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Lunch will follow at the Legion Clubroom in New Prague.
