Frederick M. “Fritz” Kehren, age 85, of New Prague, died Friday, January 23, 2015 at St. Gertrude’s Health Care Center in Shakopee. Fritz was born June 10, 1929 in Lake City, Minnesota, to Karl & Margarette (Mohr) Kehren. He was born and raised on his family farm and attended country school in Goodhue County. He served in the US Army from 1948 to 1954, much of that time in Germany, where he met his wife, Lotte Meyer. The couple were married in Bayreuth, Germany on March 9, 1954. Fritz worked as a brick layer, doing concrete and stone work for many companies, including Kraus-Anderson. He was a member of the Prior Lake VFW and the New Prague American Legion. Fritz loved to hunt and fish and was passionate about his garden, planting trees, and tinkering. He was known for his love of animals and especially enjoyed his trips to Germany.
Fritz is survived by his wife, Lotte Kehren, of New Prague; children, Susie (& Don) Barlage of New Prague, James Kehren (& Michelle Lang) of Burnsville, Robert (& Maureen) Kehren of Savage; sisters, Margaret Nelson of Redwing, Alice (& Fritz) Sprick of Lake City, Jean (& Jim) Halling of Zumbrota; 5 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Charlie, Nick, William, Victor, & Reno Kehren; 3 sisters, Hazel Hendl, Frances Klein, & Marian Schafer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick of Cedar Lake Church in rural Jordan with Father Orlando Tatel officiating. Visitation will take place at church one hour prior to Mass. Following mass, there will be a lunch in the social hall at St. Patrick and burial will take place at 2:15 at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis with military honors being provided by the St. Paul National Guard.
