Obituary

Evelyn peacefully departed this life on May 14, 2026, just a day after celebrating her 96th birthday, surrounded by her loving family. Her radiant spirit and gentle strength left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

Evelyn was born on May 13, 1930, in Minneapolis, MN, to James and Claribel Zima.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Margaret Jensen and brother-in-law William Jensen, her cherished son Jack Burns (Mary), grandson Jacob Burns, son-in-law Jon Nester (Sherry) and her ex-husband Pete Burns, the father of her children. Her life was a testament to love and resilience. Evelyn was a nurturing and dedicated mother to her six wonderful children: Sherry Nester (Jon), Susan Nauha (Chris), Lisa Schulze (Doug), Steve Burns (Jaynelle), Thomas Burns, and her late son Jack Burns (Mary). She extended her love to her daughters-in-laws Mary Colson-Burns and Jaynelle Burns, and son-in-laws Jon Nester, Doug Schulze & Chris Nauha. Evelyn's heart overflowed with pride for her 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn's dear friend, Nancy Wright, was also a treasured presence in her life, a woman of remarkable strength and determination.

In her later years, Evelyn found a loving companion in her partner, Donald Timmons. Together, they shared 12 wonderful years filled with laughter and companionship after meeting at Village Shores.

Evelyn's faith was a cornerstone of her life; she was a devoted member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in south Minneapolis. Her commitment to community service was evident through her volunteer work with numerous organizations, including St. Stephen's Homeless Center. Her compassion and selflessness touched countless lives.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Brighton Hospice & Village Shores for their exceptional care and unwavering support. A special thank you to Cindy, Eric, Angelleece, and Brittania for their kindness and dedication during Evelyn's final days.

A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held on June 2nd at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church Visitation at 10 AM, Funeral Mass at 11AM, Lunch after the Mass. St. Joan of Arc is located at 4537 3rd Ave. So., Minneapolis, MN 55419. There will be a private internment at Lakewood Cemetery after the lunch.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Joan Of Arc Outreach.
