Esther G. Flicek, age 102, of New Prague, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Mala Strana Health Care Center. Esther was born January 6, 1911 in St. Patrick, MN to Frank and Josephine (Madera) Zvanovec. She was raised in the rural Lonsdale area where she attended public school. She married Edward J. Flicek on May 20, 1930 in New Prague, where the couple made their home. Esther candled eggs for New Prague Poultry and Egg Produce (which became Tikalsky’s) and cleaned turkeys and chickens. She enjoyed gardening, garage sales, Czech music, and fishing.
Esther is survived by her daughter, Julia (& Bernard) Busch of Jordan; daughters-in-law, Dorothy Flicek of Le Center and Ellen Flicek of Waterville; grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Flicek; sons, George (at age 19), Edward M., and Donald J.; brothers, Frank W., Julius J. & George E. Zvanovec, Sr.; sisters, Ann Zvanovec (at age 12), Mayme Strietz, & Helen Nelson.
The funeral service for Esther will take place Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Deacon Bob Wagner officiating. Visitation will occur 2 hours prior to the service from 9 – 11 AM. Burial will follow the service at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with Bernie Busch, Jr., Mark Koehnen, Mike Pelowski, Gary Flicek, Pat Doran, and Louis Flicek serving as pallbearers. Lunch will follow at the KC Hall in New Prague.
