Emily Tikalsky, age 101, of New Prague, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague. Emily was born on October 24, 1914, on the rural farm near Webster, Rice County, MN, to Charles J. and Katherine (Tupa) Horejsi, Sr. When Emily was 2 years old, her parents moved to New Prague area Scott County, Belle Plaine Township. She attended District 76 School in Union Hill and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School. On March 4, 1937, Emily was united in marriage to Eugene M. Tikalsky at St. Wenceslaus Church by Reverend C.M. Popelka. They farmed for many years and she worked seasonally at Green Giant and after retirement, she worked at Clemmers Cafe, baking pies. She also worked at The Torchlight and Lakeside Supper Clubs. Emily loved gardening, sewing, baking, and spending time with her family and friends. When she and her husband retired, they enjoyed travel as well.
Emily is survived by her son, Gene “Ticker” Tikalsky of New Prague; daughter-in-law, Patty Tikalsky of Jordan; adoptive grandson, Jeremy (& Kim) Gerres; grandchildren, Jennifer (& Bobby) Church of Jordan and Aimee (& Ben) Robinson of Le Center; great-grandchildren, Taylin and Landon Church; adoptive great-granddaughter, Elsa Gerres; sister Elsie Bisek Tupy of New Praugue; special friend, Mark Pfannenstein of New Prague. She is preceded in death by her husband on September 22, 1999; parents; son, Ernie C. Tikalsky; brother, Charles J. Horejsi, Jr.; sisters, Julie Svoboda, Ann Bohnsack, Evelyn Bisek, Mary “Mayme” Tikalsky.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Visitation will occur Monday from 4 – 7 PM and Tuesday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will follow Mass at the church cemetery and lunch will be served at the KC Hall in New Prague.
