Obituary

Edward Halloran, age 86, of St. Thomas, died Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Mayo Health System Mankato.  Ed was born September 10, 1926 in Belle Plaine to John P. & Grace (Schell) Halloran.  He was raised in the St. Thomas area and went to elementary country school and New Prague High School. He entered the Navy Air Corps after high school and served his country for 4 years.  Following service, he married Marian L. Kline at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery on October 11, 1947.  He worked as a mechanic at the Chevrolet Dealership in Montgomery before buying his farm in 1954, where he and his wife remained for the remainder of his life. Ed was a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the Rural Electric Board for 35 years, for which he served as a past Secretary/Treasurer.  He was noted throughout his farming career as a mechanic and fixed tractors and cars for neighbors.  He was a man of the earth who loved farming and also enjoyed playing cards.

Ed is survived by his wife, Marian; daughters, Jeanette (& Rick) Nash of New Prague, Joan (& Charles) Bruzek of Prior Lake; sons, David of St. Thomas, Edward (& Denise) of St. Thomas; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, John (& Betty) of Belle Plaine, James (& Mary Jean) of St. Thomas; sisters, Ruth Johnson of Madelia, Doris (& Bill) Solie of Eden Prairie, Mary Louise (& Don) Hayden of Le Center.  He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert E. Halloran; brother, Joe Halloran.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 at 10 AM at St. Thomas Catholic Church in St. Thomas.  Visitation will occur Tuesday, Nov. 20 from 4 – 8 PM and Wednesday morning from 7:30 – 9:15 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.  Burial will occur at the church cemetery with military rites being conducted.  There will be a lunch at the K C Hall in New Prague following the burial.
