Dorothy Svoboda, age 84, of New Prague, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2012 at male Strana Health Care Facility in New Prague. Dorothy was born February 24, 1928 in Montgomery, MN to William & Mary (Geronime) Handsuch. She married Lloyd J. Svoboda on May 8, 1954 in Montgomery and the couple made their home in New Prague, where they raised 4 children and Dorothy worked as a nursing assistant at Mala Strana Nursing Home. Dorothy loved crafts, gardening, sewing, and flowers. Spending time with her grandchildren and cards were especially top priorities in her life.
Dorothy is survived by children, Cheryl (& John) Bastyr of Owatonna, Terri (& Wayne) Bentson of Rosemount, Jim (& Barb) Svoboda of Bel Aire, MD, Shelly (& Kevin) Spielberger of Chaska; grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Anna Bastyr; Alicia, Ben, Caroline Kading; Christian, Camryn, Carly Svoboda; Zachary, Michaela, Eric, Tyler Spielberger; brothers, Stan (& Delores “Cookie”) Handsuch of Hill City, John Handsuch of Jordan; sister, Mary Ann (& Jim) McDonald of Fergus Falls. She is preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 14, 2007 and her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague with Fr. Roger Hessian officiating. Visitation will take place at Bruzek Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 – 8 PM and on Friday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 AM. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery and lunch will follow at the Legion Club in New Prague.
