Don Meyer, age 88, of New Prague, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague. Don was born on February 22, 1924 to Albert F. & Dorothea (Meinke) Meyer in New Market Township, MN. Don attended Country District School in New Market and New Prague High School. He served in WWII in the US Navy and then married Shirley Kajer on November 9, 1946 at St. Wenceslaus Rectory in New Prague. The couple made their home in New Prague where Don served as Superintendant of New Prague Utilities for 41years, following a 5-year employment with the REA in Elk River. Don was a former Boy Scout leader, former member of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, NP Planning Commission; he was Past President of New Prague Opportunities, Past Advisor of Explorer Scouts, Past President of Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency and member of the American Legion and VFW. In his leisure time, he loved woodworking, hunting, & fishing.
Don is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Carol & Don Trytten of Overland Park, KS, Bruce & Debbie of New Prague, Ken & Jackie of Eden Prairie, Dona Meyer of Prior Lake, Paul & Terri of Bloomington, John & Erica of New Prague, Liz Olson & Bob Biaggio of Zimmerman; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters Ellen Kodadek of St. Louis Park, Elaine McGovern of Farmington, Lorna (& Joe) Docken of Webster. He is preceded in death by his parents; Brothers-in-law, Bob Kodadek, Clayton McGovern.
Services for Don will be held Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at 7 PM at Bruzek Funeral Home with visitation 3 hours prior. Interment will take place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to Peace Center or Hospice of the Twin Cities.
