Dennis Scheel, age 91, of New Prague, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014 at his home. Dennis was born September 14, 1923 in Menominee, WI to Carl and Effie (Schultz) Scheel. He was raised in Menominee and attended Dunn County District School and Veterans On-Farm Training School of Agriculture, graduating in 1954. Dennis served with the Army during WWII, was discharged in 1946, and married June V. Harland on March 29, 1947 in Stillwater, MN. Dennis and June farmed in Wisconsin before moving to New Prague in 1955, where he worked for Nieman Roofing for 14 years and then worked as a palletizer for the New Prague International Multifoods Mill. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the Millers Union. Dennis was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved gardening and the outdoors, and was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. He was also an Allis Chalmers CA tractor enthusiast.
Dennis is survived by his wife, June of New Prague; children, Bonnie Aebly of Mapleton, MN, Denise (& Tony) Smisek of New Prague, Daniel (& Kathleen) Scheel of Montgomery, Rodney (& MaryAnn) Scheel of Green Isle, MN; sister, Agnes Harvey of Menominee, WI; brother-in-law, George Larson of Menominee, WI; sister-in-law, Joan Scheel of Elk Mound, WI; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, Larry Crough, Kevin Hinderscheit, Kenny Hinderscheit; nephew, Jerry Nienan; brother, “Bud” Gerald Scheel; sisters, Laville Harrington, Frances Lerch, Ellie Larson.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Prague with Reverend Erick Thompson officiating. Visitation will take place 2 hours prior to service from 9 – 11 AM at church. Burial will follow at Czech National Cemetery in New Prague with military honors being conducted. Lunch will follow in the church fellowship hall.
