Christine B. “Chris” Lukkes, age 81, of New Prague, died Thursday, September 24, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Chris was born October 6, 1933, in New Prague, MN, to Jacob J. and Emma (Chlan) Bruzek. She was raised in New Prague, graduating from New Prague High School. She married Donald D. Lukkes on June 30, 1953, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. Chris did office/secretarial work for many businesses throughout her life, including the New Prague Times and Minnesota Valley Breeders Association and also worked as a cashier for the Red Owl Store in New Prague. Chris loved camping and playing cards, especially Bridge. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making many items for her grandchildren, which were a priority in her life. She greatly enjoyed visiting casinos, her second “church”.
Chris is survived by her children, Gary Lukkes of Lakeville, MN, Mark (& Mary) Lukkes of New Prague, MN, Bob (& Marty) Lukkes of Roselle, IL, Susan (& Anthony) Taylor of Richfield, MN; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence Bruzek of Myrtle Beach, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on August 4, 2002; her parents; sister, Cecelia Solheid; brother, Cyril Bruzek; great-grandchild, Jeremiah Van Epps.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 11:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, October 9th from 4 – 7 PM and Saturday morning from 7:30 – 10:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the Legion Clubroom.
