Obituary

Cecelia A. Shetka, age 94, of Webster, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, March 7, 2014 at her home.  Celia was born September 10, 1919 in the same home she died in – Wheatland Township, Rice County, Minnesota – to Joseph & Frances (Dolezal) Kopet.  She was a lifelong resident of the family homestead farm by Veseli, attending New Prague Area Elementary School and Normal School.  She married Richard R. Shetka on June 9, 1945 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli.  Celia taught in a one-room school house at Kilkenny for 7 years and then was a homemaker in her home where she raised 13 children and 1 grandchild.  Celia was first and foremost devoted to her family, leaving them a legacy of strong faith and work ethic.  She was a devout Catholic, active as a member of the Most Holy Trinity Altar Society and attending the Franciscan Retreat House regularly.  She was a 4-H leader when her children were growing up, a creative artist, a seamstress & home decorator, and she enjoyed gardening and Czech cooking and baking.

Cecelia is survived by her children, Richard (& Bea) of Stockton, CA, Theodore (& Yettave) of Horse Shoe Bay, TX, Jerry (& Paula) of Plymouth, MN, Daniel of Webster, Trish Chapel (& Larry Bock) of Hugo, Frederic (& Suni) of Boca Raton, FL, Stanley (& Kiersten) Dahl-Shetka of Webster, Karen (& Ron) Nies of Vadnais Heights, Joseph of Waterville, Mary of Webster, Sandi of Minneapolis, Anita Alufohai (& Dan Howard) of Moorhead, MN, Susan (& John) Marshalla of Shorewood, and the grandson that she raised, Ricky (& Crystal) Shetka of Kasota; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Shetka of Isle, MN.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard on September 15, 1996; step-brothers, Ed, Albert, & Joe Kopet; step-sister, Mary Palma.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 9:30 AM at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague with Father Kevin Clinton officiating.  Visitation will take place Tuesday from 4 – 8 PM and Wednesday morning from 7:30 – 9:00 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will take place in the spring at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Veseli.  Serving as pallbearers will be Celia’s sons and grandson.  Lunch will follow Mass at the Legion Clubroom in New Prague.  Memorials are preferred to St. Michael Broadcasting Inc. or St. Wenceslaus School.
