Bessie Tuma Zelenka, age 90, of New Prague, died Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Mala Strana Health Care Center. Bessie was born December 3, 1921 in New Prague to Joseph & Emma (Pexa) Rybak. She married Rudolph Tuma on June 25, 1941 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague and after his death in 1962, married Alois Zelenka on November 30, 1963 also at St. Wenceslaus Church. Bessie was a lifelong resident of New Prague and worked as a sales clerk at the Ben Franklin in New Prague and for many years in the pro shop at the New Prague Golf Club. Bessie will be remembered for her wonderful cooking and embroidery. She loved to travel, and was an avid reader and card player.
Bessie is survived by her children, Ron (& Loretta) Tuma, Jean Tuma O’Neill, Jane (& Don) Malecha, Judy (& Peter) Menke, Eileen (& David) Glasspoole, Ronald Zelenka; 28 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, spouses, son-in-law, Gerald O’Neill, 2 grandchildren, Larry Menke, and Bethany Glasspoole, brother, Myles “mike” Rybak, sister, Adeline Busch.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 – 8 PM and Thursday from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery and lunch will follow at the KC Hall in New Prague.
