Bernice M. Tupy, age 95, of New Prague, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague. Bernice Marie Ambroz was born on May 28, 1931, in New Prague to Frank and Emma (Shetka) Ambroz. She attended country school in New Prague. Bernice met Joseph Stanley Tupy at the dance hall in New Prague and the couple was married on April 26, 1952. Bernice and Joe S. farmed for many years in the St. Patrick area. She also worked various jobs over the years. Most of all, her favorite job was raising her children and grandchildren. Bernice loved playing cards and bingo, putting together puzzles, and fishing. She also enjoyed gardening and growing vegetables. One of her favorite memories was having all the grandkids come over to play kickball and softball in her yard. She even was a substitute pitcher at times. After Joe S. passed away, she moved into her townhouse in New Prague and became even more involved in her grandchildren’s events and sporting events. Bernice was their biggest fan; anytime one of the grandchildren had their name in the newspaper she would cut out the article and save it in a scrapbook. Bernice was a lifelong member at St. Wenceslaus and was very strong in her faith.
Bernice is survived by her sons, Allen Tupy and Ron (Sue) Tupy, both of New Prague; son-in-law, Bernie Novak of Veseli; sister-in-law, Rita Ambroz of New Prague; grandchildren, Brad (Katie) Novak of New Prague, Dan (Julie) Novak of New Prague, Shelly (Monty) Brabham of Cedar Lake, Brett (Chelsea) Novak of New Prague, Eric (Penny) Tupy of Austin, Laura Blanks of Mendota Heights, Rebecca (Ryan) Nicol of Carver, Paul (Annie) Tupy of New Prague, Amanda (Pete) Marino of Union Grove, Wisconsin, Brian (Caitlin Hinton) Tupy of Lonsdale, Stephanie (Zac) Lenz of New Prague, and Nicole (Nick) Sampson of New Prague; 34 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe S.; parents, Frank and Emma Ambroz; daughter, Eileen Novak; infant son, Daniel J. Tupy; sister, Irene (Albert) Unger; brother, Arnie Ambroz; and great-granddaughter, Harper Blanks.
