Ambrose J. Becker, age 79 of New Prague, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Mala Strana Health Care Center. Ambrose was born December 7, 1932 in Bridgewater Twp, Rice County to Alphonse & Catherine (Huss) Becker. At age 6 the family moved to a farm near Union Hill, where he would remain and farm with his wife, Jeanette Witt, whom he married on June 16, 1956 in Union Hill until moving into New Prague in 2001. Ambrose served in the US Army from 1953-55. In addition to farming, he wore many hats: he sold seed corn for Farmer’s Hybrid and Asgrow, & worked for Bendzick Machinery. He was director at the Park Ballroom for many years where he booked events. He owned and operated B & B Vending business and served as a director for the Federal Land Bank for 9 years. He was a popular bus driver for many years for the New Prague School system. Ambrose was a member of Catholic Aid, both 3rd & 4th degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion, former trustee of St. John’s Catholic Church, and worked for NFO. Ambrose loved to play cards, loved to listen to polka music, and loved to be around his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; children, Linda (& Mike) Hoheisel, Sandy (& Tony) LeMay, Duane (& Sandy), Sharon (& Greg) Bornholdt, Robert (& Cindy), Kevin & special friend, Beth Krouse; Brother, Silverius (& Celia) Becker; sister, Sister Jean Becker; 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Becker; sister, Sister Eunice Becker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 2, 2012 at 10 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 – 8 PM and Monday from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery in Union Hill. Military rites will be conducted. Lunch will follow at the KC Hall in New Prague.
