Obituary

Alice M. Schmitz, of rural Jordan, died Thursday, July 12, 2012 at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine. Alice was born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 25, 1925 to Arthur and Julia (Barrett) Graack. She was raised in Minneapolis, where she graduated from North High School.  She married Andrew H. Schmitz at Incarnation Church in South Minneapolis on December 18, 1971 and worked for Thermo King, retiring early after 33 years of employment in order to help her husband on the farm.  Andrew and Alice loved to travel, their travels taking them to Europe, Asia, North Africa, the British Isles, South and Central America, the Hawaiian Islands, & New Zealand.  They crossed all provinces of Canada, drove to Alaska & took several cruises.  She was a member of the 3rd Order of St. Francis and did a lot of charity work for St. Wenceslaus.  Alice loved animals, especially her Sheltie dogs.  She and Andy took in a movie every week.

Alice is survived by her husband, Andrew, of 40+ years; 3 sisters; 1 brother.  She is preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 16, 2012 at 10 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.  Visitation will be Sunday, July 15 from 5 – 8 PM at Bruzek Funeral Home and at church on Monday 1 hour prior to Mass.  Burial will take place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.  Lunch will be served at the Legion Clubroom in New Prague.
